The extra footage is said to be around 10-12 minutes, which isn’t a lot, but any excuse to see Avatar in 3D again is good enough for me. Some of the extra scenes that could be added are Jake Sully’s avatar proving himself to the Na’vi and Tsu’tey getting drunk at a native festival.

To be honest, I don’t think it would be detrimental to the film for leaving these scenes out as I was amazed with Avatar both times that I saw it in all it’s 3D glory.

The reason for the possible re-release is because James Cameron reckons the studios have missed out on around $200 million because of the release of Alice in Wonderland in 3D which has replaced Avatar 3D in many cinemas.

Personally I think it should be left alone and take it for what it is. A huge success that smashed all records. Just be proud of that Mr Cameron and move on. But saying that, I would watch it again if it was re-released. Hypocritical I know.

Well following on from the back of that news, a new trailer has been released and I cannot wait to see this film. Looking at the original Tron trailer, you can see how dated it is, yet is still remains a classic. But Tron Legacy will be the way that Tron was meant to be seen, and the fact that we’ll be able to watch it in 3D is all the more exciting.

The base of the story seems to be that Flynn’s (Jeff Bridges) son goes looking for him after being told by Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) that a message had been received from Flynn’s office. Of course, his son ends up going into Tron and ends up finding his father (I presume). But that’s about as much as I know.

A bit more is shown of Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash and of Iron Man and War Machine fighting together which does look pretty awesome! There’s also a new Iron Man suit this time around which looks like a portable suit of some kind that Tony Stark can carry around with him, but don’t worry, the red and gold suit is still there.

Samuel L. Jackson makes an appearance as Nick Fury which is great too see as I really like the fact that they’re beginning to link the Marvel world together through their films.

There are parts through the trailer that made me chuckle and will hopefully mean the humour from the first Iron Man film will be seen in the sequel, especially with Robert Downey Jr.’s dry sense of humour.

Disney has said because of the hype that Tron: Legacy is starting to pick up, it’s likely that a trilogy will be on the cards. Following on from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is this a good thing? Pirates was amazing, but got worse as they went along (mainly because of Orlando Bloom’s and Kiera Knightleys god awful performances…in my opinion).

If it hadn’t been for one Johnny Depp, those films would have failed abysmally, no wonder they won’t be back, but Johnny Depp will return for a 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

So what’s to say that the proposed trilogy of Tron will be any good. Surely if Tron: Legacy does become and box office success, why not leave it at that instead of cashing in as Hollywood always seems to do?

Not only is there possibly a trilogy, but a computer animated TV series which will fill in the gaps between the first and second films of the new trilogy which has been pencilled in for late 2011/early 2012 as well as a new Tron ride in Disneyland. A bit OTT?

I’m excited to see Tron: Legacy as I thought the original was really good a deserves an overhaul as it were, and seeing it in 3D, in my eyes, is the way it was meant to be seen!

But let’s see how well Tron: Legacy does when it’s released at the back end of this year.

I like most people have never seen the original 1941 film ‘The Wolf Man’, so despite being a remake this subtly reworded film (notice the one word rather than two!) this film pretty much had a clean slate – however much Universal tried to mess it up by taking years to make it, struggling to find a director and having numerous re-edits!

I’m also not a massive horror fan – that is not to say I don’t like them, rather I won’t go out of my way to watch them – so you can take my word with slightly more validity than a horror addict that this was in fact an enjoyable film despite the at best mediocre reviews it has been getting.

But first: the story. The film starts with a classic horror midnight moonlight chase through a forest between a certain Ben Talbot and an unseen threat, which ultimately ends in Ben disappearing under ‘mysterious circumstances’. His fiancée Gwen Conliffe played by Emily Blunt then writes to his brother informing of his disappearance and requesting aid to help find him from which point the plot follows Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro) as he returns to Talbot hall and the Victorian village it lies near.

Lawrence, having been sent to America as a child, was in the country as a travelling actor (who conveniently has an American accent, which the cynic in me thinks is because it saved a voice actor for Del Toro) and once he arrives they discover the body, or rather bits, of his brother which both sets a precedent set to continue and sets the story up nicely: a rogue Werewolf and out main character is the prime suspect.

All this is under the watchful eye of the father Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins) who manages to play the creepy/mysterious/unloving/generally odd character very well, although I am yet to work out whether or not that was due to great acting or the just general disjointed nature of the film but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand Benicio manages to play the main character with as little emotion as possible which unfortunately makes it quite difficult to warm to, or even care about, him and in fact you are more drawn to the ex-fiancée Gwen who despite looking incredibly 21st Century at times manages to liven up the incredibly dull Victorian atmosphere – I can honestly not remember any time in the film where it is not night, misty or raining.

So far not all that bad, but nothing special. But the bit that I loved about this film is that it seems to have all the classic horror parts, but doesn’t seem to quite to be able to string them together that doesn’t seem either ironic or just amusing!

There is lots of mist (and I mean lots, it was absolutely everywhere, the novelty wore off after the first sequence), there’s stuffed animal heads accompanied by random animal noises, there’s flashbacks, there’s a surprisingly convincing London rooftop chase, there are some impressive sideburns (especially by the inspector played by sporadically and hopefully intentionally amusing Hugo Weaving), there’s is depressing piano music and there are lots of deaths… but it just doesn’t seem to work.

One of the main reasons for this is perhaps the excess of violence. Yes, every good horror film has a bit of blood and gore, but half of the ‘horror’ aspect is from the suspense and fear of violence and when people are getting ripped to pieces left right and centre it doesn’t quite have the same effect. The best example is when a man, trapped in a swamp, gets his head swiped off by the Wolfman leaving a squirting mount of blood and entrails – which prompted a sympathetic ‘oh’ from the cinema, followed by a few laughs!

Also the Wolfman himself was a bit of a disappointment; I won’t go into too much detail for fear of spoiling it for you, but having seen the CGI offering from films like even Harry Potter they seem to have the edge on both scary-ness and even realism – mostly cause it’s hard to take something that you know to be a person in tonnes of makeup seriously.

The last little niggle that the film gave me was the interesting timescale that the film portrays – for a start lunar months seem to go incredibly quickly and every other scene is at full moon which is a little irritating although not unsurprising. Also at one point a man walks up from London to Yorkshire, and yet arrives only hours after a group going up on horses and in carriages – but seeing as there are Werewolves I’m not sure realism is really an option.

So should you go and see this film? Well if you love traditional horrors set in bleak Victorian England then this is definitely for you, and if you don’t (and don’t mind/like people being disembowelled or decapitated every so often) then I would still advise it as you will either find it ironic, or see it for the horror that it is supposed to be both of which go down as a success in my book!

A solid 3 ½ out of 5 from me!

“I think we’re going to do a Die Hard 5 next year”

Personally I think that they should leave it alone. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Die Hard 4.0, but I think they could end up ruining the franchise. I could be wrong and the fifth outing for John McClane could be the best yet but I’m sure this news will be getting mixed opinions amongst fans. Bruce Willis also said that he wants to take it worldwide instead of staying in the States.

Maybe a good way of ending the fifth film if it is to go ahead, would be to kill of John McClane is a heroic moment that would define the character and let him go out with a bang!!

So it’s your classic American survival horror flick, a re-make of the 1973 movie of the same name, although this new movie includes the original director (George A Romero) as a co-writer, so it will no doubt have some of the same influences as the 70s original. You can see The Crazies in your local cinema from the 26th February 2010.

As part of the marketing campaign for this movie release, they have produced a rather novel viral ad in which you can actually star in the trailer of the movie and then send it out to your friends to see.

All you need to do is upload a photo of yourself (or perhaps even a friend’s), make any optional changes such as matching the skin tone or adjusting the face and it will then create a 3D digital image which is inserted into The Crazies trailer.

Anyway, why not take a look at this rather novel facility on the Make Your Friends Crazy website and be one of the first to do this, no doubt lots more future movies will start doing this kind of thing.

So aside from playing a video game like Left 4 Dead, it’s probably the closest you’ll get to being in a horror movie yourself…but then that’s probably a good thing!

But just in case you haven’t seen it, Woody is kidnapped by a toy collector who wants to sell him and the rest of ‘Woody’s Roundup’ to a Japanese museum. It’s then up to Buzz & co. to find Woody and bring him home. We meet new characters including Barbie’s Mrs Potato Head and Buzz’s arch enemy, Emperor Zurg.

The film is still a fantastic Pixar adventure and one of their best to date and the 3D element of the film I found to be a step up from Toy Story 3D. I don’t know whether this was because of it looking that extra bit sharper as animation is like a fine wine and gets better with age, but it did look better than the original Toy Story whilst wearing my indoor shades.

It’s good to have a little taster of what Toy Story 3 is going to be like because the quality of Pixar films just keeps getting better and I do expect it to look stunning in 3D a lot like their last masterpiece ‘Up’. But of course, it wasn’t just all about the 3D. The film still made me laugh quite loud after seeing it God knows how many times and the outtakes at the end are just genius.

Unfortunately this was only out for 2 weeks so if you missed it, then I’m afraid you’ve missed out. I’m glad I managed to see both Toy Story’s in 3D and I’m counting down the days until the release of the much over due next instalment this summer, check out the Toy Story 3 trailer if you haven’t seen it!

It could be what we’ve all been waiting for since Ghostbusters 2 was released back in 1989, or it could end up being a complete insult to what has become such a cult film.

But either way you look at it, Bill Murray will be reprising his role as Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 3 along with the rest of the original actors. Now we all know what Bill Murray’s sense of humour is like so I’m only believing his quote 85%……………..well maybe 90%, because he could have said it just for a laugh!

“I’ll come back in Ghostbusters 3 only if I get to be a ghost. I said to them, I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel. So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film”.

This could be complete genius if handled in the correct way or it could be a “well what was the point of that” moment. Some people aren’t happy about the fact that there’s going to be new and younger Ghostbusters donning the proton packs, and I’m still on the fence about the idea. I personally think it would be better to see old men chasing ghosts around Manhattan in the typical humour we’re used to from the first two films. I personally think that the storyline from Ghostbusters: The Video Game would have made a great film, so hopefully they can match or better that.

I really do hope that we’ll all be surprised and ecstatic about the outcome and that the new breed of Ghostbusters and that they do the cult films justice. Let’s just hope Hollywood don’t ruin in and cash in as the new Ghostbusters will be younger and they can drag it out for the next 10 years with countless sequels, which can only lead to no named actors who drive the good Ghostbusters name into the ground!

Either way, Venkman’s back with his sleazy, hilarious ways whether he’s dead or alive.

However, the one thing that everyone is hoping for is that they continue to give us answers…and by answers, we mean the big answers to some of the fundamental questions and mysteries on the show that have been there since the beginning…what is the smoke monster and what significance have the numbers got?

Of course, that’s just two of the very many unanswered questions, although the producers of the show have already said that they will give the series a meaningful ending, ie. it’s not all just been a dream the dogs head! That said, they’ve also hinted that not everything will be returned to and neatly tied up – that could be rather annoying don’t you think?

Anyway, just to illustrate how annoying that could be, take a look at this parody music video that’s be made by the Benny & Rafi Fine, aka The Fine Brothers (who have made lots of cool Lost parody videos). This “Lost season 6 answers video” is a great reminder of just how much needs to be covered in the final 17 episodes of Lost…but I have a distinct feeling some of this stuff we’ll never get to know about, especially since JJ Abrams (who has a Mystery Box) is involved in the series, so the chances of there still being lots of mysteries at the end of the show is very likely in my opinion!
