If you want a sleek, portable device to take with you as a backup power supply in case your phone dies when you’re in the middle of nowhere, you may want to check out PowerMonkey.
Awesome name aside, PowerMonkey chargers come in two varieties and can keep your gadgets running when there isn’t a mains plug in site!
The eXplorer version, available in blue and grey, uses solar panels to keep whatever you attach to it running. You may not want to be in the UK relying on solar power, but if you’re in a remotely sunny place you should be good until you reach a plug! You can also charge the eXplorer version via AC or USB if you want to make sure you have enough power before you leave.Continue reading »

If you’re like me, you will have boxes and boxes of old negative photos that are never seen because they aren’t on your computer, and often get forgotten.
If you want to take all those negatives and make digital copies of them, it’s as easy as putting them through this USB negative scanner, which will transfer them to your computer for you! Simple.
When you put your negatives through the scanner, you can change various settings for importing them, such as the colour depth and dpi using the supplied software.
You won’t need to worry about using batteries or the mains to power the scanner either as it can be fully powered via USB, no alternate power source necessary.Continue reading »

There’s cool, then there’s awesome, then there’s anti-gravity at the top of the technical food chain! This one is so cool it’s not a question of whether you should buy it, the question is how much time you should spend admiring the supplied globe float. In mid air. Above the platform.
I’m not kidding around either, as the anti-gravity platform utilises insanely powerful magnets to levitate the included globe that you can place above it. It will float, rotate, and look super cool wherever you put it – it’s straight out of Star Trek! There are even LEDs around the base to add a little extra “nerd” to the package.Continue reading »

USB peripherals have been all the rage in the past few years, and it appears that this year is no exception. If you live in the UK right now your first priority may not be keeping cool, but preventing an early death thanks to hypothermia, but you can never plan too far ahead for the future, right?
If your office always seems like a warm, stuffy place to work, then you may be interested in the USB Desktop Fan offered by Firebox. This one couldn’t be much simpler: simply plug the fan in to a spare USB port in to your computer, and relax as you’re cooled down by a gust of fresh air.Continue reading »

You remember this little fella, right? Bigtrak is a programmable vehicle that can remember up to 16 commands (and loop those 16 commands for as long as you want it to) and infuriate you as it bumps in to every object imaginable as you send it on a mission across the living room!
So how exactly do you control the thing? Well, on the top of the device is a 23 button keypad which allows you to specify which direction you want it to go and how many lengths it should go in a particular direction. You can tell it to rotate any number of degrees, too, sending it on a wild goose chase for the sole purpose of wreaking havoc with your resident pet.Continue reading »

You may remember that in the past year we’ve covered Kymera’s technology gadgets that imitate the use of magic, specifically the Magic Wand Remote Control which is not only a very cool way to control your TV or other remote devices by yourself, but is sure to impress your friends when they visit.
Well with the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows released having been released and the final part coming in just a few months’ time, the world has once again gone magic crazy. Naturally, it makes perfect sense then, for another magically-inspired gadget, namely the Kandela Magic Candle & Wand. It’s a candle that you can light up with the swish of the included magic wand! I spend hours and hours every day typing away on my laptop’s QWERTY keyboard, but I’ve never really had the space to use a keyboard of the musical variety. However, now thanks to the USB Discover MIDI Keyboard, that is one excuse that I can no longer use to explain my lack of musical ability as this one plugs right in to a spare USB port on your PC or Mac.
The keyboard comprises of 25 piano style keys, is nice and small so you can take it wherever you want to, and includes software for both Windows and Mac OS X that helps you learn the basics of the keyboard and record your playing sessions, too.Continue reading »

For better or worse, our lives are full of various gadgets and gizmos. Most of us have a smartphone such as the iPhone or HTC Desire that stays with us throughout the day, along with an MP3 player and various other USB powered gadgets – what happened to gadgets all merging into one?
Since we have all these gadgets, that is why we need devices such as the Pebble Portable Charger!
As great as this is (and it is) to have our favourite gadgets on the move with us, the only problem is their battery lives are often painfully short with prolonged usage. These things run out of juice a lot, and sometimes we can’t make it home in time to keep them powered up. Therefore the solution is to ensure you have a portable battery charger with you!Continue reading »

Do you remember a little piece of tech that we told you about in September? The new iPod Nano which took a real new turn in terms of design from the previous model.

The market for eBook readers is becoming an increasingly difficult one to stand out in. The devices are all intended for the same purpose at their heart and aesthetically it is difficult to differentiate. So, it all comes down to whether you prefer the minimalist reading device such as an Amazon Kindle, or something which offers just that little bit more. A few more frills. Enter the Imagin Colour Screen eBook Reader!
When the Kindle 3 came to market, people were astonished at the low, low price of just £109, and that’s no surprise as it was a hugely aggressive price point for such a device, completely undercutting Amazon’s rivals at Sony and the likes. So, setting you back just £99.99, the Imagin eBook Reader becomes a little bit more interesting and cheaper than getting an iPad just for colour eBooks!Continue reading »

Are you jealous of all those flash-bearing iPhone 4 users out there? No, not that kind of Flash (we know Steve doesn’t like that), but the type of Flash that emits light and makes taking photos in dark conditions easier with your iPhone 3GS or 3G!
Well worry no longer! Some ‘bright spark’ heard your sighs and the solution is ready and waiting to be bought right now in the form of the Beamer iPhone Case.Continue reading »

There are a lot of iPhone loving people on this earth, and with millions of users worldwide the device has taken off big time since its initial launch. The only problem for iPhone users, though, is that they look the same as the next iPhone user.

Saving money and arcade games are not two ideas that often come together. I wince every time I think of how much money I’ve thrown down the drain playing on arcade games in the past, so I think it’s about time we made up for that by saving some of dosh, don’t you?
The Retro Arcade Machine Money Box is a mini arcade game that will allow you to play each time it swallows up one of your coins. The only difference is those coins are going straight back in to your pocket and not the casino’s!Continue reading »

USB flash drives are becoming as much a part of day-to-day working life as a cup of coffee to get you through the day, and it seems you can get them pretty much anywhere. They’re not quite ten-a-penny, but they’re getting there, so it does take something a little different to make you take notice of USB memory sticks these days.
Thankfully, there are those out there who agree and have set out to do something about it. I give you the USB Flash Drive Heroes. Fashioned in the shape of various funky characters, firstly a penguin, then the festive reindeer, a ninja, a spaceman and an owl.Continue reading »
