This has been coming for a while. With the Back to the Future Trilogy being re-released on Blu-Ray and the first film having a re-release in the cinema, it’s no surprise really that a new game is being made of the cult classic.
I’m a huge fan of the films and am quite excited by what I’ve been hearing about the game, which is being developed by Telltale Games. If you’ve not heard of them before, they’re the genius’ behind the most recent Monkey Island game, the Tales of Monkey Island which was released as a digital download in 5 episodes.
Back to the Future: The Game will also be released in 5 episodes and will be a brand new story set 6 months after BTTF Part III with the return of the Dolorean. Christopher Lloyd is back as the voice of Doc Brown and although Michael J Fox gave permission to use his likeness in the games, he was unfortunately unavailable to do the voice over of Marty McFly.
As sad and as gutted as I am, the guy they’ve got the fill in for Michael J Fox (AJ LoCascio) does an incredible impression of his voice. If you didn’t know Michael J Fox wasn’t doing the voice over, you honestly couldn’t tell the difference. Not only that, but Bob Gale who co-created and wrote the original BTTF films, is back to help with the story for the game, so you know they really want it to be true to the trilogy, especially now we’ve seen the character design styling being used, which seems to be an appropriate direction to go in.
Not only that, but there’s some cool ‘Behind the Scenes’ videos including the writers, Christopher Lloyd and AJ LoCascio. They’re only short but well worth watching. Plus the BTTF theme runs in the background which makes you feel all nostalgic.
There’s no mention of Biff in the game, but I’m sure he’ll be back in some capacity at least seen as though he was the villain in all three of the films.
So what do you think to the game? Excited that you’ll be getting more adventures from Doc and Marty? Have you recently bought and watched the recent Back to the Future Blu-Ray release and are now eager for more in the form of a game?
Will you be getting your Back to the Future: The Game pre-order in now or will you wait and see what the first episode is like first before committing to the whole series of episodes? Let us know in the comments below.
