ASUS NX90Jq Laptop – Bang & Olufsen Design (CES 2010)
I dare you to find a Bang & Olufsen product that isn’t well designed… To me, B&O are the pinnacle of design in the technology industry, so when I heard that ASUS had turned to the company to design their brand new laptop – the Asus NX90Jq.
The design screams Bang & Olufsen as soon as you look at it, so surely this is doing to be a hit? One things for sure, everything B&O touches immediately doubles in price, so it’s going to be highly priced.
Everything looks exciting at first glance – there’s an 18.4” display, surrounded by B&O speakers. The internals are comprised of an Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeFore GT 334M graphics, dual drives for additional storage, a slot Blu-Ray drive and USB 3.0. Impressive specs aside, there’s one more thing that sets this laptop apart from other offerings available right now: Dual Trackpads.
Instead of giving consumers a laptop with a trackpad in the middle, B&O designed this thing with a trackpad at either side of the device. You may think this opens the NX90Jq up to a multitude of possibilities, but the implementation of this is pretty shocking…
When asked why people need dual trackpads in their laptop at the Q&A following ASUS’s press announcement, they couldn’t really think of a good response – certainly not a response that would make anybody want this thing…If the dual trackpads offered some sort of multi-touch capability it may have made it worthwhile, but I can’t think of any sane use for two trackpads!
If you want to go for the Asus NX90Jq laptop it will put you back around $2500 going off the Q&A session following the press announcement. In all honesty, I’d rather pay $2500 for a device that offers functionality as well as nice design, but hey, that’s just me!
