3DTV Without Glasses, Coming Soon?
I went out for a meal at Xscape in Castleford last night, and thought I’d have a stroll around to let my food settle. I reached the back of the complex and noticed something odd about some of the TV’s that were playing videos……………they were projecting 3D images and I didn’t even have glasses on!!!
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I didn’t think this technology was available just yet, I knew that Sky 3DTV is coming in 2010, but you needed glasses for that. Of course you’d need a 3DTV, but why do we need glasses anymore if this technology is available?
The image I saw in 3D was the logo of Xscape with small purple spheres moving around the logo. It did appear to come out of the screen and I was stood like a gormless idiot waiting for the clip to come round again. It was only about 40 seconds until I had to wait, but I watched it about 10 times!! It had normal flat images on in-between so it can project both.
The make of the TV was ‘NewSight’, which is a company I’ve never heard of before. But upon doing some research, Philips also does their own 3DTV’s under the Dimensional Studios name.
From looking at the specs, most of them are full 1080p TV’s, but they’re all High Definition. The image I saw last night was surprisingly clear from different angles but still has room for the improvement for it too look as clear as ‘flat’ High Definition images look on normal screens.
Of course, they are very pricey and there’s no way I’ll be getting one unless I win the lottery. I would’ve thought that you’d only be able to watch certain things that have been filmed for 3D, rather than converting anything into 3D. But the fact that the technology is out there could mean to whole 3D glasses thing, could soon be disappearing and we can sit and watch in a bit more comfort. Could this also mean that certain cinema screens might be upgraded to project this image? Only time will tell.
Have you seen or heard of these before or are you as intrigued as I am to see more about 3DTV without glasses? Let us know either way in the comments below.
