It’s a good day to live in the UK! Mobile phone website Omio has uncovered a plethora of devices making their way to our shores before the end of this year from major phone manufacturers. Leaks include Android devices, phones from Nokia, and even a Windows Phone 7 device from HTC. Interested? I thought so…
Some of the content that’s been covered here has already been known for a while now, but we have a complete release roadmap to confirm a lot of our previous suspicions. The first Nokia device mentioned, the E5-00, is actually due to hit the shelves this month, so Nokia fans don’t have to wait long for this one. If you’re not familiar with the E5-00, it’s a messaging-centric device with a full QWERTY keyboard.
Arriving next month is the X6, which concentrates on being a good media phone with particular emphasis on music. Its capacity has been slashed down to 8GB to make sure it’s affordable for users, meaning it could prove popular amongst the teenage market. The X2 is due to arrive on September 1st, again offering a music based experience with dedicated music player buttons.
This next one needs no introduction. The Nokia N8 will arrive in October with Symbian^3 in tow. Whether Symbian can keep up with the fast pace set by Apple and Google in the smartphone market is yet to be seen, but it could certainly make or break the N8’s popularity.
Finally, the Nokia E7 is set to debut in November, packing an AMOLED display (nice job, Nokia!), a full QWERTY keyboard and Symbian^3 installed.
The only BlackBerry device to make the list here is due for release just next month. Coming with a 3.2MP camera and QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry Curve 9300 is sure to raise a few eyebrows when it hits the shelves.
Sony’s series of ‘Walkman’ phones has certainly proved popular in the budget end of the market, and the updated W20 is unlikely to be an exception. You’ll be seeing this one in stores before the end of the month.
Since being unveiled in December of last year, Sony Ericsson’s Hazel has taken a back seat. Not to worry, though! We’ll be seeing it arriving in the UK by Septemberof this year. Not quite the promised Q2 2010 release, I know, but being an eco-friendly phone, it was probably taking its time anyway.
Arguably the most exciting device in this list, the Xperia X8, codenamed ‘Shakira’, will be making its way to the UK by October of this year. If you’re looking for an Android device, this is certainly one to watch out for. Finally, the Sony Ericsson Yendo promises to deliver a full touch-screen based Walkman experience, and will also be available in October.
Samsung’s Android device, the i5500, will be in our hands before the month’s out. This is most definitely a budget device, with a 2MP camera coming with this one, but it does include Wi-Fi and A-GPS, so not all is lost!
Much more exciting is the Samsung i8700 Cetus, which we know very little about. It will come with Bada OS installed judging by the greek mythological naming scheme, and could signal Samsung’s big push towards the top of the smartphone market.
We’re certainly saving the best ’til last here! HTC’s Windows Phone 7 device, codenamed ‘Gold’, is due to hit the market in November. Considering how successful the Taiwanese company has been with their Android devices, and even some Windows Mobile devices such as the HD2, I’m incredibly excited for this release. Unfortunately, we don’t have any juicy details to share with you at the moment, but we’ll certainly keep you posted as we learn more!
As well as this, both the HTC Vision and HTC Ace are scheduled for an October release. When thinking of the Vision, imagine the HTC Desire + a QWERTY keyboard. Unfortunately, we don’t have many details on the Ace, but we’ll keep you updated as we do.
With such a huge leak making its way on to the net, we’re sure to have an exciting year on the smartphone front. Will these devices be enough to wrestle market share off Apple after they’ve only just recently released their new iPhone 4? Possibly, but even if they don’t, it means a lot more choice in the market!
