I Do Follow When You Comment!

You may have noticed the recent ‘U Comment, I Follow’ logo addition to the sidebar of the site, I decided to add this after reading about the ‘Do Follow’ plugin over at Brown Thoughts.

What it essential means is that anyone who makes a comment on one of my posts will get a permanent link back to their website (regardless of whether you get onto the Top Commentators list), this in turn helps their rankings on various systems, such as Google, Technorati etc.

I’ve had the ‘Do Follow’ installed since I started the Zath blog 2 months ago, but until now hadn’t thought to publicise the fact, so feel free to comment in future with the knowledge that you’ll be getting links back to your own site!

UPDATE: Due to issues of spam, I’ve now discontinued this policy regarding comment links which are now no-follow again.

Have you noticed any drawbacks to having removed the no-follow?

Not really Suzanne no. Obviously you still get spam comments bieng left but these are all captured as spam by Akismet plugin.

I think overall, it really a good thing and encourages interaction with your readers.

I think this is a great idea. I’ve recently removed the no follow attribute from my comment links as well. I’ve already seen an increase in readership.

Good call man - I really wish they’d have this as a default option in the backend. As long as you’re watching your comments or use akismet or any of the other million anti-spam plugins there’s no reason to drive away users, links, or comments.

But that’s just my opinion.
